Happy fall, y’all! If pumpkin spice is your jam, check out these easy ways to pumpkin spice EVERYTHING from treats to sweets to home and body care! (Including a literal way to pumpkin spice your jam.)
The Flavor of Fall
Pumpkin spice is a beloved flavor associated with the fall season. With homemade pumpkin spice syrup and homemade pumpkin spice seasoning, you can transform some of your favorite treats (and home products!) into fall indulgences. Here are a few of our favorite easy ways to incorporate more pumpkin spice into everything.
Homemade PSL, Frappe, or Hot Chocolate
Brew a strong cup of coffee or espresso, add homemade pumpkin spice syrup, and swirl with some steamed milk. Then top it off with caramel whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin spice for a delicious homemade pumpkin spice latte. Make it a frappe by using cold milk, adding ice, and blending until smooth. In addition, let the kids share in the fun by adding 1/2 tsp of pumpkin spice seasoning to their favorite hot chocolate mix.
Pumpkin Spice Smoothie
Blend up a pumpkin spice smoothie by combining pumpkin puree, banana, Greek yogurt, milk (or a dairy-free alternative), and a dash of pumpkin spice seasoning. You can also add some honey or maple syrup for sweetness. It’s a nutritious and flavorful way to start your day.
Pumpkin Spice Trail Mix
Create a custom pumpkin spice trail mix by combining roasted pumpkin seeds (pepitas), cinnamon-glazed almonds, dried cranberries, and white chocolate chips. Toss it all together with a dusting of pumpkin spice for a sweet and savory snack.
Pumpkin Spice Jam
If pumpkin spice is your figurative jam, you might enjoy making it your literal jam. To do so, combine 2 cups of pumpkin puree, 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar, and a tablespoon of lemon juice in a saucepan. Then stir in a teaspoon of pumpkin spice seasoning and a pinch of salt. Simmer the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency, typically around 20-25 minutes. Finally, pour the jam into sterilized jars, seal them, and let them cool before storing in the refrigerator. (Should yield 16-20 oz total.)
Pumpkin Spice Baked Goods
Flavor any of your favorite baked goods by adding 2 tsp of pumpkin spice to them. This includes brownies, sugar cookies, banana bread, scones, cupcakes (icing!), cakes, and so much more. Additionally, to add more pumpkin to these recipes as well, replace 1/2 of the oil called for in each recipe with pumpkin puree.
Pumpkin Spice Breakfast
Start your morning with a hearty bowl of pumpkin spice oatmeal. Simply add a dash of pumpkin spice seasoning, some pumpkin puree, and a drizzle of maple syrup to your cooked (or overnight) oats. You can also sprinkle pumpkin spice on top for an extra burst of flavor.
Pumpkin Spice Dessert
Whip up a creamy pumpkin spice cheesecake by adding 1 cup pumpkin puree and 2 tsp pumpkin spice to your favorite cheesecake recipe. You can also make pumpkin spice ice cream by adding pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice seasoning to your favorite ice cream recipe.
Pumpkin Spice Pancakes or Waffles
Transform your regular pancake or waffle recipe by adding pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice seasoning to the batter. After that, drizzle them with maple syrup and a dollop of whipped cream for an indulgent breakfast.
Pumpkin Spice Body Care Products
Pamper yourself with pumpkin spice-scented body care products. For example, make your own lotion by starting with a neutral, unscented base (shea butter, coconut oil, aloe vera gel) and add pumpkin spice fragrance oil (or a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and ginger essential oils) to it. You can also add the oil(s) to your bath bombs, sugar scrubs, or tub water for a DIY pumpkin spice spa treatment.
Pumpkin Spice Candles or Potpourri
Create a cozy atmosphere in your home by lighting pumpkin spice-scented candles. If you make your own candles, just add pumpkin spice fragrance oil and pumpkin spice seasoning to your mix. Or snatch up a delicious PSL Soy Candle while they’re available. The warm and comforting aroma can help you relax and get into the fall spirit. You can also find pumpkin spice-scented room sprays and diffusers at most stores these days.
Alternatively, you can make your home smell like autumn by creating a pumpkin spice potpourri. To this end, combine dried orange peels, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and a pinch of pumpkin spice seasoning. Then place it in a decorative bowl or simmer it on the stove in a pot of water to fill your home with a delightful fragrance.
