As promised, I am going to share how you can use our 3-ingredient Homemade Vanilla Syrup to make delicious dairy-free Homemade Cream Soda! This recipe was conceived in love & born out of a personal desire to enjoy a soda with only simple & refined ingredients. Because there are only 3 (real) ingredients in the vanilla syrup (sugar, brown sugar, & vanilla), you can make sure that your end result is high quality and without any needless ingredients! Personally, I buy organic sugar & brown sugar (both from Costco). I use Nielsen & Massey Organic Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Extract which has a warm & clean flavor.
Homemade Soda with Fewer Ingredients
Like so many other modern families, we suffer from a myriad of food allergies and intolerances. Because of this, we strive for homemade whenever possible. We also try to cut out unnecessary ingredients when we can. For example, with our DIY taco seasoning and homemade chocolate syrup. This dairy-free homemade cream soda is a great alternative to store-bought sodas! It has a refreshing, clean flavor that is addictive – for all the right reasons! The adults love it, and so do the kids!!
Homemade Cream Soda {Dairy-Free}
Last year, I had the opportunity to post a SodaStream review on my former blog. I was sent a jet stream starter kit in order to do so. Over the years, I have learned to love & use our SodaStream most to make this Cream Soda. While you can use regular Club Soda or Sparkling Water, I use my SodaStream to make plain carbonated water. I then pour that over my vanilla syrup, stir, & VOILA! Homemade cream soda in an instant!
So Much More than Cream Soda
A little bit later, I’ll share a few other variations on the vanilla syrup; you can make so many more flavors than just homemade cream soda. For example, you can use our homemade pumpkin spice syrup to make a pumpkin spice soda. Sounds gross to me, but no judgment!
For now, you can customize the flavor of your soda, by replacing the vanilla syrup with whatever flavor you’d prefer – like Hazelnut, Peach, or even Lavender! Make your own soda & go wild with it. Who knows, you might be the one to start a brand new obsession with Hazelnut Soda!
Homemade Cream Soda {Dairy-Free}
Ingredients
- 2 oz Homemade Vanilla Syrup
- 10 oz Carbonated Water Club Soda, Sparkling Water, or SodaStream
Instructions
- Pour vanilla syrup into a 12oz or larger glass & slowly add carbonated water, being careful not to overflow the cup. With a long spoon, gently stir. Enjoy while still cold & bubbly!

So yummy! I Added a splash of half and half (by the way made it even more perfection). It was sweet and tasted better than I expected! Thanks!!!
Perfect! You made it a true Italian Cream Soda by adding half & half!
I made this for a Halloween party because I couldn’t find root-beer extract in the stores. I guess no one makes it anymore. Instead of adding club soda I added water and dry ice. It turned out great! The kids loved it!
Never ingest dry ice in any form it can make you severely ill. You can get rootbeer extract on Amazon.
@Beth Good call! So true.
@Angie – So fun!!
Yummy!!! Made the simple syrup and the cream soda today!!!
Cream sida us my favorite and nit easy to find,
Thanks!!!
Natalie
I agree! It’s my favorite and can be tricky to find.
My kids wanted to make soda at home. I found this was one of the few that I had all the ingredients for. I cheated a bit, cut it in half and made it in the microwave, but it came out great. Our cream sodas were DELICIOUS!
I read somewhere else that a touch of cream will make it even better, so I added a tiny splash of Italian sweet cream coffee creamer to my cup. I thought it was a nice addition, but others liked it as-is.
So glad y’all enjoyed it! Yes, you can definitely use the microwave as a short-cut, and adding cream to it makes it a true Italian Cream Soda!
I am a Diabetic… can you make a cream soda with Monkfruit for us please? It is a kind of sugar / sweetener with no after taste. Thank you.
I get the Monk fruit drops. I adjust to my like it sweetness. This works great.
@Rhonda – good to know!!
@Bridget – Absolutely! To make it with Monkfruit instead of sugar, just replace the sugar on a 1:1 ratio for the Monkfruit. As a personal aside, I think substitutes like Stevia and Monkfruit are much sweeter than sugar, so I usually cut it in half when subbing for real sugar. You could always start w/ half and add more, as needed. Taste as you go. 😉
