After getting the official Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNaF) cookbook for Christmas and making several of the recipes, we knew we had to review it! (And NOPE, this is NOT a sponsored post. We bought it with our own money and were not asked to review it. We’re doing it because we love it!)
Five Nights at Freddy’s
In case you didn’t already know, Five Nights at Freddy’s is a popular horror video game. Players take on the role of a security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza (a spoof on Chuck E Cheese). The objective is to survive five nights by monitoring security cameras to track animatronic characters. The game is known for its tense atmosphere, jump scares, and intriguing lore. There have been subsequent games based on the first, including Sister Location, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator, and Help Wanted. In 2023, they also released an FNaF feature film based on the game.
Original FNaF Cookbook
Our teenagers have played the game, seen the movie, and love the premise. So, when we spotted The Official Five Nights at Freddy’s Cookbook on sale this past Christmas, we knew they’d love it. What we didn’t expect, however, was how legit the recipes would be. Nor how much we’d LOVE so many of them! Truly, so far, we haven’t made a single thing that we didn’t like or that hasn’t turned out well. I’ve been letting my 14-year-old take the lead with all the preparations. So far, I’ve only stepped in to assist when absolutely needed (deep frying, for example!). She has adored making dinner for the family night after night. Unquestionably, we’ve loved eating the fruits of her labor!
In addition, she’s fascinated and amused by the extra FNaF content included. For example, did you know that the Sodaroni Slushy was originally a pepperoni-flavored beverage?! 🤢 The recipes include ingredients, instructions, full-page images of the food, pictures of the characters, “Freddy Facts,” trivia, “Freddy’s Top Tips,” and so much more. Between the recipes and the stories, you’ve got plenty here to get you started on a Five Nights at Freddy’s party! When the movie came out, we made a whole evening of it. Sadly, we didn’t have the FNaF cookbook yet. Undoubtedly, it would’ve made it so much cooler!
Not Just for FNaF Fans
Like me, you’ve probably assumed that the cookbook, like the game, is targeted at teenage cooks. While that might be true, I can tell you that adults would love it too! Indeed, even if you have no experience with the game or movie. There is a ton of flavor packed into these recipes!
As expected, there are recipes for pizza dough, pizza sauce, and garlic bread. But that’s just the start! There are also so many unexpected recipes for things like salmon patties, coconut curry, fajitas, Buddha bowls, eggs benedict, churros, and smoothies! And the recipes themselves are incredible, with lots of twists and tips for interesting flavor pairings, advanced cooking techniques, and from-scatch preparations.
So far, a few of our favorites have been:
- Circus Baby’s Cheesy Garlic Bread (p. 22)
- El Chip’s Fully Loaded Tortillas (p. 36)
- Funtime Chica’s Harissa Chicken Wings (p. 52)
- Chica’s Ultimate Thai Chicken Burgers (p. 56)
- Glamrock Freddy’s Fully Loaded Hot Dogs (p. 82)
- Foxy’s Fruity Cove Cooler (p. 116)
Plus, the harissa wing sauce is now a go-to favorite for all kinds of other dishes. Additionally, the Thai-inspired slaw will be a summer side dish staple from here on out. Seriously, there is something for everyone, every preference, and every mood in here – comfort food, healthy eats, sweet tooth cravings, and even vegetarian dishes!
Review of Official FNaF Cookbook
In short, while I can’t recommend that everyone should play the FNaF game or see the movie, I actually can assert that everyone would find something to love in The Official Five Nights at Freddy’s Cookbook. And if you’re a fan of the original FNaF game, then all the behind-the-scenes content will be an added cherry on top! (Just be sure it’s a cherry and not a severed fingertip before eating it. 😉)
