DIY Easy Cold Brew Slush Recipe

DIY Easy Cold Brew Slush Recipe

This DIY Easy Cold Brew Slush Recipe is crazy good, fully customizable, and perfect for a summer afternoon pick-me-up! Just don’t make it when you have company – unless you want them dropping by daily! 😉

A week ago, I visited a little coffee shop in town and, on a whim, ordered a Cold Brew Slush made with brown sugar and oat milk. Y’all. It was SO good!!! I knew I had to rush home to figure out how to make it myself. And so I did. You’re welcome. 😂

Easy Reasons to DIY

I’ll be honest. I don’t frequent coffeehouses often. This is for a few reasons:

  • They’re too expensive.
  • The options are often too limited to accommodate my allergy needs.
  • I have to leave the house to get there (it’s legit!).

Not only am I dairy-free, fat-intolerant (for real), and sugar-conscious, but I’m also highly sensitive to acidic foods. This includes regularly roasted coffee. The struggle is real. But so is the craving. Thankfully, I am able to indulge in some cold brews. And I love making my own favorite cup of joe at home with low-acid coffee grounds, low-fat non-dairy milk/creamer, and sugar alternatives. This coffee slush recipe is able to meet me where I am and yet pack a major flavor punch and just the right amount of caffeine for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Save Money with DIY Coffee

Can we just talk about the insane prices of coffeehouse drinks these days?! I remember, not that long ago, when we called Starbucks “Fourbucks” because that’s how much it was to get a specialty drink. If you can get one under $5 today, that’s a deal! And while they seem to have lots of options to customize your beverages, they now upcharge for those changes. Used to be, you could swap out the milk for a non-dairy option for free. No more! That’ll now cost you.

Homemade beverages are a bit of our specialty, so we’ve got a lot of options to help you make this cold brew slush your own. If you’re a fan of our homemade vanilla syrup, you can definitely add that to this drink as the sweetener! Or if you want a hint of fall flavors, use our homemade pumpkin spice syrup. Want to make it a mocha? Add this easy homemade chocolate syrup to the mix. Last, be sure to dollop the top with some homemade caramel whipped cream for an indulgent treat! Not in the mood for a frozen coffee, our popular dairy-free cream soda recipe is sure to help you beat the heat without the caffeine.

Lastly, for the perfect frothy, creamy, smooth slush, I recommend using a Vitamix. They really are the best. And we use ours daily for breakfast smoothies, milkshakes, soups, salsas, ice cream bases, and so much more! I’m crazy-frugal, but this was one appliance that was well worth the investment!! And it will make all the difference in this DIY easy cold brew slush recipe.

  • 1 cup Cold Brew Coffee, strongly brewed (or cold coffee or shot of espresso)
  • 2 tbsp Sweetener (sugar, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar, or scaled-down sugar alternative)
  • ½ cup Milk or Non-Dairy Alternative
  • 1 cup Ice Cubes (for more coffee flavor, use coffee ice cubes)
  • Splash of Vanilla Extract (optional)

Instructions

  • Stir sugar and coffee until dissolved.
  • Pour coffee mixture, milk, ice cubes, and vanilla (if using) into blender.
  • Blend on high (or "frozen treat" setting) until mixture reaches a slush-like consistency. You may need to stop and stir the mixture a few times to ensure all the ice is blended smoothly.
  • Pour into glass and serve immediately.

Notes

This recipe easily scales up or down to make it for a crowd or just for one.
Feel free to adjust the ingredients and amounts to suit your own preferences. Use our homemade vanilla syrup or pumpkin spice syrup in place of regular sugar. Add homemade chocolate syrup to make it a mocha. Garnish with caramel whipped cream for an indulgent treat!
Personally, I like using Trader Joe’s Cold Brew Concentrate or The Fresh Market’s Low-Acid Coffee, almond milk, and 1/2 tsp Monk Fruit Sweetener. It makes for a slightly sweet, low-calorie treat!
