Each week, we celebrate TACO TUESDAY in our house and this Homemade DIY Taco Seasoning makes it extra easy! My kids love it! While I do get creative lots of weeks and don’t serve traditional tacos per se, we still go through a lot of taco seasoning. Store-bought packets are easy, but they’re loaded with tons of excess sodium & preservatives. Therefore, I decided a while back to try my hand at a DIY Homemade Taco Seasoning. And it turned out to be so much easier than I thought! Plus, it’s cheaper than buying the individual packets and tastier than any store-bought option I have ever tried!
Homemade Tacos
This simple combination of flavorful spices can be easily adapted to fit personal preferences. You can use it in ANY recipe that calls for a ‘taco seasoning’ packet. For example, like our delicious Taco Pie and DIY Crunchwrap Supremes! Just use 2 tbsp. of the below recipe for each 1 lb of meat (or each 1 pkg of taco seasoning called for). This recipe will make bold mild tacos with a little kick to them, but you can easily turn up the heat by adding 1 tsp of Crushed Red Pepper to the mix! Want to make your tacos over-the-moon amazing?! Add 1/2 c. of salsa to the meat and seasoning!! Oh yes, it makes all the difference!
This Tuesday, borrow our tradition and have tacos!! You may decide to make it a weekly

We love this combination of spices! Flavorful enough for everyone, even the adults, while also being mild enough for the kids to devour.
Couldn’t agree more!
This is my go to recipe for taco seasoning. Love it.
Ours too! 🙂
I like the flavor but it’s a little too hot for us. I’d go with 2 tsp of chili powder instead of 2 tbsp. And probably bump the cumin a tad.
Yes! One of the best things about homemade seasoning is that you can customize it to your family’s tastes. To make it less spicy, you can use mild chili powder or cut the chili powder in half (1 tbsp). If you want to make sure the final product is still just as flavorful, you can substitute 1 tbsp with Paprika.
