2019 Personal Resolutions

2019 Personal Resolutions

Goals and I are not good friends. Personal resolutions are just not something I have ever championed, but 2019 will see that change! Here’s the deal: I LOVE setting goals. And that’s where it ends. I’m awful at keeping them. I quickly lose motivation. I’m prone to giving-upping.

More of More

So for 2019, I ditched the traditional resolution making method and opted for a personal ‘more of’ list and a ‘less of’ list, instead. Without my knowledge, my eldest daughter read it and proudly mocked me for it over the dinner table earlier this week. One of her most profound remarks was, “You only have, like, three things in the ‘less’ column!” (#SoTrue) To which I quickly responded, “I’m a typical American: I just want more!” And it’s true; this year, I want more of more! (With the exception of personal belongings; in which case, I agree with Tidying Up with Marie Kondoless is more!)

Which is why two of my personal top resolutions for 2019 are centered around increased motivation and exacting more self-discipline. See what I did there?? I took the two things that are the root cause of my rubbish-resolution-keeping struggle and turned them into personal resolutions themselves! I’m a genius. You may applaud now. And … stop.

Days of the Week

First order of business, I made a weekly calendar of daily checklists for 2019 that will help me focus in on those personal resolutions in bite-sized chunks. For example, I have “Devotions” and “Yoga” listed every day except Sunday (#DayOfRest). I also have a few items to check off weekly, like “Act of Kindness,” “Tidy & Clean,” “Write,” and “Homemade Dinner.” The magic, I’m hoping, is in the items that will stretch my weaknesses. To do this, I’ve included “Say ‘no’ to an impulse” and “Do something you’re procrastinating” every single day. #SelfDiscipline

For real, I am NOT going to accomplish every personal item on my list daily. They are there to remind me daily and help me track the resolutions I want to habitualize in 2019. That way, at the end of each week, I can see how I did over the past seven days. And then adjust as necessary going into the next week.

In terms of the big picture, we’ve already checked off a MAJOR item for the year! Visit our *NEW* blog venture called Culture Redeemed to see what I’m talking about.

I would LOVE to know what you are hoping for more of in 2019!!
